Behaviors Associated with ASD
Possible indicators of ASD
are listed in Figure 1: Behavioral Indicators (next page). This list is
of general childhood behaviors that should alert concerned adults that normal
developmental milestones are not being reached. If children exhibit one or more
of these behaviors, it does not necessarily mean that they have ASD.
These behaviors, however, do serve as a call to action for a formal screening and diagnostic evaluation by a specialized, multidisciplinary team with expertise in ASD. This team may include a pediatrician, a neurologist, a clinical psychologist, a speech-language pathologist, a learning consultant and other professionals experienced and knowledgeable in ASD.
