Children with autism also have difficulty understanding facial expressions, such as the difference between a smile and a look of anger. Tone of voice and gesture may not make sense. Making eye contact and communicating with other people is very hard because the world they experience is not the same world others around them experience. As a result, children with autism tend to spend much of their time alone rather than engaging with other people.
